Ro-Ko: a narrative created by Indian media which became a problem for "Ro"
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli has ruled the world cricket in last 15 years but the name of "Ro-Ko" has created a drama which should be not happen because both are different types of players but this clubbing make life difficult for Rohit Sharma in international cricket because whenever he fails to score runs in 2 or 3 matches he faced criticism but whenever Kohli fails to score runs and Rohit Sharma score runs then media starts "Ro-Ko" and it looks unfair on Rohit Sharma. In this Ro-Ko drama the fanbases of these two players took advantage just for criticising their respective opponent fanbases, they will start criticizing the failures of their opponent fanbases players like they are waiting for failure and because of this thing now India is a cricketing country where there fans support their favourite players while criticize other players and they also pray for the loss of Indian cricket team whenever their favourite players failed to score runs. Rohit Sharma has a great catalogue of 50+ international centuries, 2 ICC trophies as a captain and 20k+ runs while Kohli has 28k+ runs in international cricket with 85 centuries in international cricket but one thing which makes Rohit Sharma different from Kohli is Rohit Sharma wanted to win trophies because his philosophy is winning trophies are the most important thing because it defines your legacy but for this comment Rohit Sharma always faced criticism because the fanbases in India thinks Rohit Sharma can't score 80+ hundreds that's why he is giving these types of statements but in reality if Rohit wants to score hundreds he can score hundreds very easily but in 2019 when he scored 5 hundreds in ICC Men's ODI World Cup but Indian team lost the semi-final against New Zealand and got knocked out of tournament and that hit Rohit Sharma very hard and Rohit Sharma is still trying to recover from that 2019 heartbreak. In India milestones are celebrated than impactful knocks but it took 11 years to win an ICC trophy because the mindset of team was very timid but Rohit Sharma changed that approach after becoming the captain and won back to back trophies as a captain but for that he changed his natural game and he started playing aggressive brand of cricket which helped Indian team and he adopted that approach by saying "I am the captain, I will play this type of cricket and I will show my team to play this way" and he got succeed but for this he also faced that criticism. Virat Kohli is a great cricketer but he was not a great captain like Tendulkar who is the greatest batter on this planet and known as "God of cricket" for his batting performance.
Who started "Ro-Ko" drama?
In 2023 Asia Cup the official broadcaster Star Sports who was also the official broadcaster for ICC Men's ODI World Cup 2023 started a new promo where they used the name of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli as "Ro-Ko". Star Sports created this promo because they had to include Kohli because he was the brand ambassador of Star Sports that's why they started this drama which always worked against Rohit Sharma whether in 2023 or 2025. Many so-called neutral cricket fans think Rohit Sharma needs this "Ro-Ko" clubbing just for making himself relevant but in the reality Rohit Sharma cricketing catalogue will still great without this "Ro-Ko" clubbing, he got everything in cricket whether stats as a player or trophies as a captain which only few can achieve in international cricket.
