Greatness of Rohit Sharma - T20 Captain

 Rohit Sharma is the one of greatest captain, he is a great batter but he is also a good captain. In T20 format he is the greatest ever captain in the world. But Rohit Sharma journey as a captain in T20 cricket was the very tough journey for Rohit Sharma. 
In IPL 2013 Rohit Sharma became the captain of Mumbai Indians, in that IPL Mumbai Indians team was struggling but Rohit Sharma started his captaincy and Mumbai Indians started to winning matches and they finally won their first title. Rohit Sharma won the IPL trophy for Mumbai Indians that time where Mumbai Indians was struggling and Mumbai Indians captain Ricky Ponting stepped down as a captain and denied to play any match in the IPL because of worst performance and then Rohit Sharma was appointed as a captain. Rohit Sharma won 5 IPL titles for Mumbai Indians as a captain and also won 1 champions league trophy as a captain. In those 5 trophies Rohit Sharma won 3 finals against CSK where MS Dhoni was the captain of CSK and in IPL beating MS Dhoni in final as a captain is not easy. In 2021 , Rohit Sharma was appointed as a captain of Indian cricket team because Virat Kohli resigned from captaincy and that time Indian cricket team was struggling in T20I cricket, Virat Kohli was a good captain but not good enough in T20I. Rohit Sharma statement was clear how he wants to play T20I cricket, he wanted to play with intent where team can score 60-70 runs in powerplay overs in T20I cricket, this method was very good for Indian cricket team and this method worked very well till Asia Cup 2022 but In ICC Men's T20I World Cup 2022 this method failed and Indian cricket team knocked out from tournament after losing Semifinal against England and Rohit Sharma was criticised heavily by Indian media, former cricketers and cricket experts. Rohit Sharma own performances are not good because he wanted to play freely and because of that he was not scoring fifties and hundreds and in Indian cricket even if you are not scoring fifties in T20I cricket you will be called a failed player, it doesn't matter how many balls you are playing for scoring fifties. If you score 50 Runs in 39 balls then you will be called a great batter and if you score 35 Runs in 22 balls you will be called as a failed player. Rohit Sharma wanted to change these things but he failed in that world cup and after that world cup Rohit Sharma didn't played a T20I match till December 2023 . In 2024 Rohit Sharma comes back into his fearless brand of batting that he played in Odi world cup 2023 , where he was scoring runs with intent and he played very great in that tournament. But Rohit Sharma didn't scored runs in first 2 matches and he scored two ducks in first 2 matches and after those two failures whole Indian media started to say " Rohit Sharma is a finished player and he is not a deserving player in Indian T20I team but Rohit Sharma silenced to all critics in the third T20I match where he played a match saviour knock, Rohit Sharma scored 121* Runs in 69 balls when Indian team score was 22 for 4 and India won the match in Super Over where Rohit Sharma also played very well. In IPL Rohit Sharma performance was mixed and once again he was trolled in IPL where he didn't score runs in some matches despite all these things Rohit Sharma named as a Captain of Indian cricket team for ICC Men's T20I World Cup 2024 but Indian media was still criticizing Rohit Sharma and saying " Rohit Sharma should resign as a captain and he should give chance to other player in the place of himself " but Rohit Sharma knows how to silence his trollers and In T20I world cup he started T20I world cup with a brilliant fifty against Ireland but in next 2-3 matches Rohit Sharma performance goes down because he wants to play same attacking mindset and once again Indian sports media comes with a new agenda against Rohit Sharma and they started to saying " Rohit Sharma is a minnow basher, he only score against small teams" but Rohit Sharma once again silenced to all when he scored 92 Runs in 40 balls against Australia and India won the match against Australia. Once again Indian team was playing a Semifinal of ICC Men's T20I World Cup against England and everyone knows what happened When last time Indian cricket team played semifinal against England but Rohit Sharma was ready this time to take the revenge of that Semifinal lost against England. Rohit Sharma scored a brilliant fifty and Indian team scored 171 Runs in 20 Overs and Indian team won the Semifinal match and qualified for final of ICC Men's T20I World Cup final 2024 , Rohit Sharma was just one win away from winning T20I world cup as a captain and he won the T20I World Cup against South Africa in final because of smart captaincy , when South Africa needed 30 Runs in 30 balls then Rohit Sharma rotated his bowlers very well in those 5 overs and bowlers also very well and Indian team won a T20I world cup after 17 years in the captaincy of Rohit Sharma. After winning the world world cup as a captain Rohit Sharma retires from T20I cricket. Rohit Sharma was a captain who knows how to defend a low total in T20 cricket and he showed many times in T20 cricket. Rohit Sharma is a captain who backs players. Rohit Sharma was a captain who never thought he is a captain and he treated equally every player. Rohit Sharma played 8 final match as a captain in T20 cricket and he won all those 8 finals and this shows the greatness of Rohit Sharma. Many captain will come and go but no one will become captain like Rohit Sharma. 

My Opinion: 

Rohit Sharma is a great captain of T20 cricket and no one can match his legacy in T20 cricket. He is the greatest captain of T20 cricket because he won many matches as a Captain where everyone thinks match is over. Many people will say he won many matches because of bowlers, yes he won matches because of bowlers but he knows how to manage those bowlers. For Example, Hardik Pandya was struggling in IPL when he was bowling but in ICC Men's T20I World Cup 2024 Hardik Pandya bowled very well because Rohit Sharma manage Hardik Pandya very well. If your captain knows to manage bowlers then an average bowling line up will be looking like a great bowling attack and if your captain doesn't know to manage bowlers then a great bowling attack will be looking like a weak bowling attack.
