Is it time for the Indian Cricket Team management and Selectors to move on from Virat Kohli in T20I Format?

After playing brilliant cricket in the ODI World Cup, the Indian cricket team is now eyeing the T20I World Cup to be held in West Indies and USA next year. Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma and former captain Virat Kohli have not played a single T20I match after the last T20I World Cup. But according to media reports, in the recently held BCCI review meeting, BCCI is not considering former Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli in the T20I World Cup squad to be held next year. Virat Kohli bats at number three in T20I. But according to media reports, BCCI wants Ishan Kishan to bat at number three in the T20I World Cup.

Why does BCCI and Selectors want Ishan Kishan to Bat at No.3 in T20I World Cup 2024 ?

Because Ishan Kishan can play fearless brand of cricket in T20I Format, he is a that kind of player who can turn the match with his batting. In T20I Format, Strike rate is a big factor. In T20I Format 16 ball 40 Run is better than 40 ball 50 Run. Ishan Kishan knows how to Play T20I Cricket.

Why doesn't BCCI, Selectors and Team Management want Virat Kohli to bat at No.3 ?

Because Virat Kohli game is not suitable for T20I cricket. Virat Kohli is still following his own old template where he plays first 20 balls with a strike rate of 110-115 and then he started to accelerate the innings which is not good for T20 Format. T20 Cricket is now changed, Teams like England, Australia and South Africa are playing very fearless brand of cricket where their batters are playing with attacking mindset. Now In T20I cricket there is no need of an anchor because in T20I Format you have only 120 balls, if you Will go for anchoring the innings and then you will be starting to accelerate the innings that means you are giving the chance to other team to coming back in the game . If Virat Kohli plays ICC Men's T20I World Cup 2024 then it will be unfair with other players like Shubhman Gill, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Tilak Verma, Yashasvi Jaiswal and other players who performed very well in the absence of Virat Kohli.

My Opinion:

Virat Kohli has performed very well in T20I Format. But now time has come for the selectors and Team Management to move beyond Virat Kohli in T20I Format and give chance to Ishan Kishan to bat at No.3 in ICC Men's T20I World Cup.

  1. This is what perception does. VIRAT KOHLI has a strike Rate of 137 in T2ois playing at no 3. And Ishan kishan has 124 Strike rate despite playing 40 odd games for India. Stop making your mind assumptions an Agenda.
