Journey of Rohit Sharma - The Batter
Rohit Sharma is widely regarded as one of the greatest batters in world cricket, having scored more than 17000 runs in international cricket. However, his journey as a batter has been fraught with challenges. Rohit made his debut in international cricket in 2007, but it was during the ICC Men's T20I World Cup 2007 that his batting talent was truly recognized. In a match against South Africa, the Indian cricket team lost three wickets for 33 runs. Rohit Sharma then came into the crease and scored a brilliant half-century, helping India score 153/5 in 20 overs. The Indian bowlers then restricted South Africa to 116 runs in 20 overs, and the Indian cricket team won the match by 37 runs. Rohit Sharma was awarded the Player of the Match award for his outstanding performance.
Rohit Sharma once again rescued the Indian cricket team with his batting in the final of the ICC Men's T20I World Cup against Pakistan. The Indian cricket team was able to score only 115 runs after 15.2 overs, but then Rohit Sharma came into the crease and batted brilliantly with an unbeaten 30 runs in 16 balls, taking the Indian cricket team to a respectable total of 157 runs in the stipulated 20 overs. Once again, the Indian bowlers performed exceptionally well, restricting Pakistan to 152 runs in 20 overs, and the Indian cricket team won the final match of the ICC Men's T20I World Cup by 5 runs.
Despite his early success, Rohit Sharma's cricketing career has been marked by ups and downs. He was not scoring runs consistently, but he was playing some match-winning knocks. The team management backed Rohit Sharma because of his match-winning ability. However, due to his bad form, Rohit Sharma was dropped from the Indian cricket team squad for the ODI World Cup 2011. After this incident, Rohit Sharma once again started his journey as a batter in international cricket, and he played two match-winning knocks in the ODI series against West Indies in West Indies. Rohit Sharma was awarded the Player of the Series for his outstanding batting performance.
Rohit Sharma's batting performance was once again down, and some former cricketers like Aakash Chopra and Sanjay Manjrekar questioned why Rohit Sharma was being backed by the team management. However, the team management continued to support Rohit Sharma. Then, in 2013, a decision was taken by the team management that changed Rohit Sharma's cricketing career. That decision was to make Rohit Sharma the opening batter in the white-ball format. After becoming the opening batter of the Indian cricket team, Rohit Sharma did not look back in the white-ball format. He has registered countless records in his name while opening batting in the white-ball format.
Rohit Sharma played his first test match against West Indies in 2013. He scored a brilliant hundred in his first test match. However, Rohit Sharma was never given a consistent number of matches in test cricket to show his performance in test cricket. The team management always dropped Rohit Sharma from the test team after one or two failures. But Rohit Sharma was very dedicated to showing his performance in test cricket to the world. He always wanted people to know him not only as a successful white-ball batter but also as a successful test cricketer.
Once again, in 2019, the team management took a decision that changed Rohit Sharma's career in test cricket. That decision was to make Rohit Sharma the opening batter in test cricket. This was the last chance for Rohit Sharma to show the world why he is the greatest opener of the generation. After becoming an opening batter in test cricket, Rohit Sharma scored hundreds in both innings in the first test match against South Africa, sending a message to everyone that he is here to stay and rule the test cricket. After becoming the opening batter of the Indian test team, Rohit Sharma did not look back in the test format. He has registered many records in his name in test cricket while opening. Today, Rohit Sharma is one of the best opening batters in test cricket in the world.
In conclusion, Rohit Sharma has created his own legacy in the white-ball format as a batter. He has changed ODI cricket with his batting. However, in test cricket, Rohit Sharma has not created his own legacy as a batter. His batting numbers are not justifying his talent. Although he is performing very well and scoring runs consistently, for creating his own legacy in test cricket, Rohit Sharma needs to score runs in overseas countries. The Indian cricket team will be playing the next test series against South Africa in South Africa, and this test series will be a very tough task for Rohit Sharma as a batter and as a captain.
